Primary 1 meet some of our local community helpers!

Primary 1 at Edinbarnet have been learning all about 'People Who Help Us'.  We began by looking at the people who help us at home and in our school, then over the last few weeks we moved on to explore the people who help us in our local community.  We were extremely lucky to receive visits from our local Police and Fire Service, the Opticians and also our local Lollipop Man John. The children gained so much from these visits, including the opportunity to ask questions, test out equipment and even try on some of the uniforms worn by our community helpers! It wasn't only the children who benefited from these exciting visits...our Head Teacher Mrs McCormick also got her office windows cleaned with the Firemen's hose!

Olivia loved testing out the hose!

The children were surprised to find out where the water came from!

The children took turns to explore inside the Fire Appliance.

Logan enjoyed trying out the Fireman's helmet.

Lewis is excited to test out the hose.

Wow...look how far the water travels!

The children loved meeting John our local Lollipop Man who spoke about road safety and how he can help the children to cross safely on their way to and from school.

The children impressed John by being able to identify some of the letter sounds they have been learning in his lollipop stick and during our play session this week some children recreated their own lollipop sticks using paper plates, colouring pens and sticks.
Our local Lollipop Man John explains his role in the community.

Orla enjoyed trying on some on John's uniform.

Don't you think Mason would make a super Lollipop Man?

The children learned all about the role of the Optometrist and what an eye test entails.  They loved trying on the different pairs of glasses that Specsavers kindly donated for our People Who Help Us role play area.
Our local Optician brought lots of glasses for the children to try on.

Colin enjoys experiencing what it is like to wear glasses.

Alix thought her glasses were a perfect fit!
