Parental Involvement in Primary 1


In Edinbarnet we believe that it is very important to build strong and positive relationships with our parents/carers.

So far in Primary 1 we have had:
-Invite your parents to lunch day
-Primary 1 Termly Newsletter
-Settling in meetings
-Homework workshop
-Class blog

Throughout the year there shall be a number of opportunities for parents/carers to be involved in their child's learning.  Such as:
-Soft finish afternoons
-Class Assemblies
-Parent Workshops
-Parents Evenings
-Termly Class Newsletters
-Fortnightly Blogs
-Coffee Mornings
-Stay, Play and Eat sessions

You will receive further information about these events via letter/blog.

As you will see from the photos below the children were so excited to invite their parents/carers into school for lunch.

Summer Trip to Briarlands Farm - P1a

The boys and girls in P1a had a fabulous time on their end of term trip to Briarlands Farm. The children managed to cram in so much including testing their jumping skills on the huge jumping pillows, having fun in the play park, petting the animals, a tractor ride round the farm and a shot on the go carts.  Oh and not forgetting a pit stop for lunch in the barn.  All of the fun and excitement was too much for some...who had a little nap on the bus journey home! The children should be commended on their fantastic manners and behaviour throughout the day, they were a credit to their parents and school.  Well done boys and girls!

When our local Vets (Boyce and Houston) came to visit!

When learning about 'The people who help us' Primary 1 were lucky enough to receive a visit from our local vets.  The vets surprised us by bringing along Danny the Dog.  The children learned all about the different jobs that vets carry out.  The children learned how to apply bandages to animal using soft teddies to practise.  They even learned how to use a stethoscope to check Danny's heart and how to use a special machine that locates and reads the information on Danny's microchip. The boys and girls learned so much from this visit and really enjoyed asking question and finding out information about the role of the vets in our community.

Primary 1 develop their STEM skills

The boys and girls in primary 1 explored the topic of Seasons through a range of STEM based activities in our STEM Hub. This included designing and making a Seasons t ree, making rain clouds in a jar, going on a weather walk and collating, organising and displaying findings. The children thoroughly enjoyed this topic, and through this, developed a range of skills including design, technology, problem solving,  scientific predicting/experimenting, information handing, critical thinking and team working.
