Edinbarnet's Primary 1 and Auchnacraig ELCC --> Literacy Link

Edinbarnet Primary School and Auchncraig ELCC held their first Literacy Link morning on Wednesday the 17th of January.  Our Literacy Link mornings revolve around a shared text which all children have the opportunity to explore.  P1 Children are paired with a pre-school child and split into 4 groups.  The children rotate around 4 teachers and are given the opportunity to explore:

Word Aware with Miss McKelvie
Rhyme Aware with Mrs Sweeney
Book Bug with Claire (Auchnacraig ELCC)
Initial Sounds with Mrs McIntosh

The children loved exploring 'The Smartest Giant in Town' and working with their buddies.  Our Literacy Link programme has been set up to allow children to work across levels and to make full use of the learning environments and experiences offered in both the nursery and in the school setting.  This programme runs as well as our transition  mornings.  It allows the children to become comfortable and confident working with new adults in different environments.

Our Word Aware focus was 'Scruffiest' and the children loved exploring and developing their understanding of the meaning of this word.

All of the children had a great time working with Claire and meeting Book Bug!

The nursery children showed off their rhyming skills to Mrs Sweeney!

Primary 1 can't wait for our next Literacy Link morning where we get to further explore the story of 'The Smartest Giant in town' over in Auchnacraig ELCC!
