When our local Vets (Boyce and Houston) came to visit!

When learning about 'The people who help us' Primary 1 were lucky enough to receive a visit from our local vets.  The vets surprised us by bringing along Danny the Dog.  The children learned all about the different jobs that vets carry out.  The children learned how to apply bandages to animal using soft teddies to practise.  They even learned how to use a stethoscope to check Danny's heart and how to use a special machine that locates and reads the information on Danny's microchip. The boys and girls learned so much from this visit and really enjoyed asking question and finding out information about the role of the vets in our community.

Primary 1 meet some of our local community helpers!

Primary 1 at Edinbarnet have been learning all about 'People Who Help Us'.  We began by looking at the people who help us at home and in our school, then over the last few weeks we moved on to explore the people who help us in our local community.  We were extremely lucky to receive visits from our local Police and Fire Service, the Opticians and also our local Lollipop Man John. The children gained so much from these visits, including the opportunity to ask questions, test out equipment and even try on some of the uniforms worn by our community helpers! It wasn't only the children who benefited from these exciting visits...our Head Teacher Mrs McCormick also got her office windows cleaned with the Firemen's hose! Olivia loved testing out the hose! The children were surprised to find out where the water came from! Exploring the various equipment used by Fire Officers. Our kind community helpers giving our little ones a helping hand. ...

Primary 1's first look at cross curricular learning - The people who help us

Primary 1 are learning all about the people who help us.  They are exploring this across the curriculum.   We started by looking at who looks after us in the house and talking about what they do to look after us.  We then moved on to the adults who look after us in school.  Together we made a beautiful wall display of the adults in school and what they do to help us.  This included the children's drawings of: The management team Teachers Learning assistants Cleaners Office ladies The janitor  Kitchen staff This display can be seen in the bottom corridor of the school.  This display certainly made a few people laugh. We then moved on to looking at people in the community who help us.  We started by exploring the Police and their role in the community.  We learned all about how and when to contact the police and the different jobs they do.  We explored this using our literacy skills, creative skills and used role...
